Issue

Environmental conditions and regional climate may cause water leakage into the PSA (Predictive Stop Arm)^TM radar module housing.  Safe Fleet Engineers researched the problem and designed a simple procedure to fortify the housing and effectively curtail potential water ingress.

Failure to perform the following procedure may result in water entering the radar housing, which could cause a system malfunction.

Resolution

Small waterproof silicone plugs with graded grooves are installed in each radar module:

The plugs push easily into the four screw holes (wells) found in the radar module’s front plate:

A small amount of the supplied low-viscosity silicone gel is applied to the grooves to further seal the cavity.

Use only the supplied silicone gel, which has been tested and approved by Safe Fleet – do not substitute other products.

Installation

Important:

• Do not perform the installation outdoors in wet weather.
• Adequate ventilation must be maintained in the workplace at all times.
• Uncured silicone gel is flammable – keep away from open flames or sparks.
• Wear eye protection when handling uncured silicone gel:
  • in case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes will with water and contact a physician
  • extended contact with the skin may cause irritation and should be avoided

The radar module housings are yellow, mounted low on the driver’s side of the vehicle, typically about 10 feet from the front bumper:

Procedure

Perform the following steps for each radar module:

1. Wipe down the front plate, and remove any dust or debris from the screw wells. Ensure the wells are clean and dry.
2. Apply a thin layer of silicone gel around the plug’s grooves. Do not overapply.
3. Push the plug into the screw well until the top of the plug is flush with the front plate surface.
4. Wipe off any excess gel from the top of the plugs and the front plate.
5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each screw well.
6. Allow the silicone gel to cure for a half-hour.
